6 ways to increase your confidence

Many of us lack confidence from time to time, but when a lack of confidence cripples your ability to believe in yourself, make important life choices and take actions towards your goals, it’s time to do something about it.

In this month’s blog I share my top 6 tips for increasing your confidence:

1)      Don’t listen to your limiting beliefs

Stopping your limiting beliefs from taking hold of your thoughts is a good place to start if you want to increase your confidence. Use the STOP technique every time something negative comes into your mind; ignore it and repeat the word STOP, disempowering the belief and allowing you to focus on something else instead.

2)      Face your fears

This is a great way to increase your confidence as you realise that you can overcome and achieve anything you put your mind to. Start with something small, just outside of your comfort zone, and build from there. This might sound counter intuitive but I promise you it works!

3)      Stop with the comparisons

We all do it when we know we shouldn’t, but remember, the only person you should be comparing yourself to is a past version of yourself. Put the rest out of your mind. Focus on you, not what the person next to you is doing – it’s not important.

4)      Get curious about your confidence

Take some time to consider what gives you confidence. Perhaps it’s a person or an activity? Spend more time doing that and less time doing things (or maybe being around people) that don’t give you confidence. Learning what or who gives you confidence will help you know what to do in order to give yourself a boost when needed.

5)      Learn something new

If your lack of confidence is because you don’t know how to do something, learn. This experience will not only increase your confidence in that area it’ll also remind you that you can do anything you put your mind to. Even if it feels scary or big, or you don’t have time, TRY. Only you can take this step and make this change.

6)      Change your physical state

Have you ever considered how your physical state might be impacting your confidence? How we sit and hold ourselves can have a big influence on how we feel about ourselves. So, if you feel like you’re having a day where your lacking confidence, change your state – move your body, shake, jump, stretch, sit up tall, take up space, breathe deeply. Putting yourself first and taking care of your body and mind can make a massive difference to your confidence both in the short and long term.

Taking any one of these steps will help give you a boost of confidence when needed but implementing all 6 will transform your confidence overall. Give it a go, see the difference it makes.
